It’s that time of the year again: the F1 2022 season is fast approaching, and the sounds of the engines revving and the tires whirring will be here in a matter of weeks.

And to build further excitement, this past week has seen some (but not all) Formula 1 teams drop their new liveries for the upcoming season.

Below I’ll rate each one out of ten. Feel free to comment with your thoughts and ratings of your own!

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team

With Lewis Hamilton aiming to claim the World Championship back from Max Verstappen, the Mercedes W13 had to look the part.

The silver arrows and the teal blue are classic Mercedes, and without being spectacular, the W13 does the job.

Rating: 7/10

HAAS F1 Team

The HAAS VF-22 is very similar to last year’s car, and definitely one of the least exciting of the new liveries with its Russian-like colour schemes.

Rating: 4/10

Red Bull Racing

The RB18 looks similar to its predecessors, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this case.

The Red Bull cars have become something of an iconic symbol in Formula 1 over the last decade, and with this years edition being the World Champion’s car, the team has kept their cards close to their chest – only displaying a ‘show car’ on the release rather than the challenger that will debut at testing.

Rating: 8/10

McLaren Racing

After their fourth-place finish in the Constructors Championship in 2021, the McLaren MCL36 will be the challenger of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris this year, as they aim to be the ‘best of the rest’ outside Mercedes and Red Bull.

The baby blue compliments the signature orange very nicely, and this is another solid addition to the McLaren challengers.

Rating: 7/10

Scuderia AlphaTauri

It’s sleek and it’s very popular with the Alpha Tauri fans, but the AlphaTauri AT03 just missing something for me. It maybe needs another burst of colour to bring it to life.

Rating: 6/10

Williams Racing

The Williams FW-44 is a car that just deserves success. Its striking blue grabs the attention, but it is in the minor details that makes this livery stands out.

Rating: 8.5/10

Aston Martin Racing

There’s not much more you can say about the design on the AMR22 than ‘WOW’. The elegance of the bottle green surrounded by the slick black and lime colours make this ALMOST my favourite livery so far.

Rating: 9.5/10

Scuderia Ferrari

Ferrari has always been the iconic brand of Formula 1, but over the past few years, their liveries have just been missing something.

This year, however, they’ve nailed it. The dark red complimented with the black gives it the evil look Ferrari have been crying out for in their cars. I’m sure Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz will have fun in the Ferrari F1-75 this year.
