MrBeast is challenging Elon Musk’s social media platform X on its ability to generate money compared to video streaming giant YouTube.
This could be a major blow to X as James Donaldson, known online as MrBeast, is well known for his incredibly expensive but also high earning YouTube videos.
Donaldson’s YouTube career has not only afforded him massive fame with over 232 million subscribers but has also funded his increasingly ludicrous videos such as his recreation of Squid Game with 456 contestants which was estimated to cost $3.5M.
The video in question is a repost of a video MrBeast had posted 4 months ago on YouTube.
Regardless it has still managed to rack up over 77M views 2 days after release at time of writing. MrBeast has stated he’ll reveal the ad revenue of the video 2 weeks after posting it leaving many to hypothesize the final result.
This comes at a time rife with reports of advertisers pulling out of X, fueling doubt in the direction of the platform since Elon Musk took over, so a disappointing amount of revenue could be seen a massive blow to X as a video streaming platform.
The Clyde Insider asked the X userbase what they think of X’s future as a video streaming platform to rival YouTube in response to MrBeast’s viral post – the response was not very favourable to X.
The comments under MrBeast’s post are a bit more mixed however, with some excited to see more long form videos on X and others mocking how low the ad revenue will potentially end up being.
So we pass the question onto you Clyde Insider readership: Can Elon Musk prove X a versatile and profitable platform – or will we be erupting in laughter at the pennies offered for MrBeast’s multi million view video?
