Ianis Hagi has made an instant impact after his deadline day arrival at Rangers, scoring a stunning winner against Hibernian to keep Steven Gerrard’s title hopes alive, which hasn’t surprised his Father, Gheorghe.
The Romanian youngster has taken like a duck to water at the Ibrox club as he knows what it takes to play at a club the size of Rangers, according to his Dad, who said his mentality, in line with the club are a perfect match as he looks to provide that extra spark to Gerrard’s side.
Romanian legend Gheorghe believes the pressure to win every week will give his son the perfect opportunity to develop his game.
Speaking to the Athletic he said:
“He likes the Pressure. He was born with it, so it’s no problem.
“If you are a good player you have to live with this because pressure means fans expect you to win and you have to live your life like that every day. It shouldn’t make you scared, it should give you positive energy.
“Rangers is ideal as he’s young so he needs to learn every day. Rangers is an amazing club and it is the best mentality you can find with the pressure to win. The mentality of this club is to win every day.”
Hagi Jr has had comparisons to his father thrown around him in every direction long before his arrival at Ibrox and Dad, Gheorge was keen for his son to create his own legacy.
“Ianis is a different player,” he added. “I used my left foot, he uses both. I was short, he is tall.
“He has more control with the ball on the left but he shoots with more power on the right. It doesn’t matter for him. It’s just natural. He started from a young age using both legs.”
