

David James McAllister is a German politician who has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014. He is a member of the Christian Democratic Union, part of the European People’s Party. Since 2003, David McAllister has served as leader of the CDU parliamentary group in the Parliament of Lower Saxony, of which he has been a member since 1998.
David McAllister also currently serves as Vice President of the European People’s Party; a coalition of conservative, liberal-conservative and Christian democratic parties across EU and non-EU member states and is the largest party in the European Parliament. He is also Vice Chairman of the International Democrat Union, an international alliance of centre-right parties, headquartered in Munich, Germany. In February 2017, David was appointed Chair of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee. He is a lawyer by profession and holds both German and British citizenship. He has been suggested as a potential future European Commissioner.
