Here are 3 of some of the most popular shows that have come out on Netflix just this year.
Shadow and Bone
The show is based on a book series of the same name by author Leigh Bardugo. The main character is Alina Starkov who has a special power of being able to summon light. This means that she must save her own country from the darkness that is called the Shadow Fold which has split her country for many years. The show has already been renewed for a second season and has already proven extremely popular amongst viewers. It has gained a rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and is already being applauded for its diverse cast.
Firefly Lane
This show follows the long friendship of two women, although the friendship is unlikely. We see Tully and Kate and how their friendship has grown since they were teenagers. There is also a difference in their personalities, with Tully being an extrovert and having a bigger personality and her best friend Kate being quieter and observant. With flashbacks to the girls’ past and the plot twists, there is no shortage of drama and funny moments to keep the viewers watching. The show has a lower rating of 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, however, it is up to the viewer.
The Irregulars
It is based on a group of young people who solve supernatural crimes for the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Doctor John Watson. The show is set in the Victorian times of London and adds a supernatural twist with the main characters having certain powers. For example, one character called Jessie has a connection to the supernatural. The show has a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has also been popular with viewers.
One viewer said: “I think it was one of the best shows ever. Thinking about Doctor Watson and Sherlock Holmes can become kind of a cliché at times, but every time but every time I see a twist I welcome it.”
There are many shows on Netflix that are still to come out and lockdown has not stopped the content that has come out.
